“We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once.“

  Calvin Coolidge

When I first decided to enter this profession, I realized that the most vulnerable times in our lives are when we share with another person our fears.  Not just simple phobias, like spiders, heights, public speaking, and the like.  They are, of course, important to understand and work through.  I’m talking here about those fears that color the way we see and interact with the world around us.  Fear of failure, humiliation, intimacy, hurt, responsibility, honesty, rejection, betrayal --- just a few of what I call the “show stopper” fears.  There are many others.

It takes a lot of energy and courage to begin and maintain any process that helps us develop insight into who we are, why we say and do the things we say and do, what our dreams and aspirations are, and what gets in the way of achieving those dreams and aspirations.  It takes a special environment and counseling relationship in order to create and foster a “safe haven” for this sort of journey.  Difficult at times?  For sure.  Ultimately rewarding and life affirming?  Without a doubt.

My goal is to offer this kind of counseling environment for my clients --- attentive, respectful, encouraging, empowering --- at all times mindful of the qualities and potentials within each of us to “do what needs to be done.”  Together, we can travel this road of growth and enlightenment.
